M.C. Escher began his career as an architect, but he made his mark with fantastic graphic art. Using a mathematical technique called "tessellation," he produced complex patterns based on repeating shapes in the forms of butterflies and fish, birds, and lizards. Learn about his life, how to construct a tessellation, and view samples of his art on the following sites.
