Portfolio Reflective Self-Assessment Letter

Purpose: After working for a semester on your geometry Google Pages, you will compile all your projects into the end-of semester portfolio. Besides serving as the basis for several course grades, this portfolio has a more important function: to assess your growth over the last few months by analyzing different parts of the portfolio and focusing on what you have learned. Although you have reflected on your work in small ways during the semester, you will now compose an overall reflective/self-assessment letter addressed to “Dear portfolios visitors:” that:

1. The introduction briefly introduces the content of the portfolio (your projects) (1 paragraph) Start the paragraph with something like, “Enclosed you will find….”

2. The body of your letter explains how your projects showcase your mathematical/geometry abilities to:
a. Develop solutions to multi-step problems (1 paragraph—include examples from multiple projects)
b. Make connections between several mathematical concepts from algebra and geometry (1 paragraph—include examples from multiple projects)
c. Apply mathematics to real world scenarios (1 paragraph—include examples from multiple projects)

Due Friday May 30, 2008 (8:00 a.m.)

d. Concentrate on your strengths—explain what you did well/what you are most proud of…..be very specific by describing the project, activity and what you did well (1 paragraph—include examples from multiple projects)

e. Discuss what you would improve, related to the content of your projects, if you were to spend more time working on your portfolio---be very specific by describing the project, activity and what you would improve and why (1 paragraph—include examples from multiple projects)

***All paragraphs should include names of the projects and activities as well as supporting details.

3. The conclusion of your letter—this is a time for you to address:
1. What you have learned in your geometry class this semester and
2. How the technology tools you have used to develop your portfolio can be applied to work you will complete in the future

Evaluation: Your letter will be graded on thoroughness, thoughtfulness, honesty and forward-thinking (how you will apply what you have learned to future learning) as well as backward thinking (your identification of strengths, best work and improvements).
Scoring:
Introduction—25 points
Body—50 points
Conclusion---25 points
Total –100 points
